Goddess Saraswati is the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom. The festival is celebrated on the fifth day of Spring (Krishna Paksha) in the months of January- February. This year, the festival arrives over 9 and 10 February, 2019. GHP gives you all the ways to enjoy Saraswati Puja in Goregaon this year.
The Significance of Saraswati Puja
Saraswati Puja marks the beginning of spring. The colour Yellow, signifying joy, prosperity and cheerfulness, is an important part of the festival.
Yellow is Goddess Saraswati’s favourite colour. It also signifies the blooming of mustard flowers during this time. On this pious day, young girls dress in yellow coloured sarees. The food prepared is also yellow in colour – sweet saffron rice, kesariya ladoos, halwa or saffron pudding!
One key significance of Saraswati Puja is that young children are made to write alphabets ( a ritual called Hathey Khori). This ritual is performed when a child completes 2 years of age. It is believed that if a young child starts writing in the presence of Saraswati, his or her learning process will be eternally blessed. This ensures a great educational and spiritual journey for the child. With a simple slate and chalk and under the eye of Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge, begins a lifetime of learning.
